Rocking Wellness: An Interview with Jannette Parent

At the Kentucky Yoga Festival, we celebrate movement, mindfulness, and community in all its forms. One of the most electrifying experiences you can find at the festival is a class led by Jannette Parent, a passionate instructor bringing POUND, Qigong, and Trauma-Informed Yoga to the festival this year. With a background in art, movement, and healing, Jannette’s approach is all about empowerment, self-expression, and finding freedom through rhythm.

Let’s dive into her story, her passion, and what makes her classes an unforgettable experience at KY Yoga Fest!

🎵 Finding Freedom Through Rhythm

Jannette’s journey into the world of movement and wellness started with a simple need—she was looking for a fun, engaging way to bring fitness to her community. She discovered POUND during an instructor training, and it was love at first strike—the moment she picked up the weighted drumsticks (Ripstix) and started drumming to the beat, she knew she had found something special.

“I’d never experienced anything like it before, and my mind was blown. How could working out be so FUN? It combines all of my favorite things—yoga and pilates moves, music, drumming—and it makes me feel strong, feisty, and badass.”

Through POUND, Jannette found a playful, high-energy way to help people step into their power, move their bodies, and connect to one another.

🔥 More Than a Workout: A Path to Healing & Empowerment

What sets Jannette’s classes apart is that they’re not just about movement—they’re about self-discovery, connection, and transformation.

💥 POUND is more than just a workout—it’s a release. It allows participants to let go of stress, break barriers, and connect with their own strength.
💥 Rhythm is everything. The way we move, breathe, and feel is all tied to rhythm, and drumming is a powerful way to tap into deeper emotions, motivation, and performance.
💥 It’s for EVERY body. Jannette emphasizes that her classes are adaptable for all ages, all abilities, and all backgrounds—you don’t need to be a musician or an athlete to feel the magic.

“We walk into class as individuals with all sorts of beautiful baggage, and we give ourselves permission to let it go. To take it all out on the mat, to connect with each other through rhythm and movement, and to turn on the truest versions of ourselves.”

The experience of POUND isn’t just about fitness—it’s about embracing your wild side, feeling confident in your skin, and finding the freedom to be 100% yourself.

🌿 Bringing Community & Connection to KY Yoga Festival

At KY Yoga Festival, Jannette’s classes aren’t just a workout—they’re a celebration of movement, music, and healing.

She has been part of the festival for three years and believes events like this are essential because they create safe spaces where people from all backgrounds can come together, learn, grow, and leave feeling better than when they arrived.

“It’s such a beautiful thing when people of all abilities and diverse backgrounds can get together and feel safe to share their talents. They learn how to move, feel better in their own skin, and leave better than they arrived. Each event opens my heart and mind to greater capacity and carries me through the rest of the year.”

Jannette has also led weekly yoga classes at a local women’s prison for the past eight years, an experience that has profoundly shaped her as a teacher and a person. “It has influenced my yoga career, my friendships, and my ideology. I am so incredibly honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve such a diverse group of people in my community.”
